Dr. Talal M. Nsouli, MD, Director of the Watergate and Burke Allergy and Asthma Centers, is currently an allergy consultant to President Barack Obama's White House Medical Office. Previously, he served in the same position in President George W. Bush's administration, and was President Bill Clinton's personal allergist for the full eight years of his presidency.

The doctor says that too frequent use of nasal irrigation washes away important antimicrobial agents found in mucous and, in doing so, can actually increase the risk of sinus infections.

Dr. Nsouli is a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and Allergy/Immunology at the Georgetown University School of Medicine. He is an Honorary Fellow of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, and he is a Distinguished Research Scientist at the International Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of Immunology in Washington, D.C.

Having been recognized by the Washingtonian Magazine as one of the top doctors in allergy/immunology in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, Dr. Nsouli has also been recognized by the Consumers' Research Council of America in America's Top Physicians, by Best Doctors in America and by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top doctors in allergy/immunology in the country.

The former president of the Greater Washington Asthma, Allergy and Immunology Society, Dr. Nsouli is on the Editorial Board of the Annals of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.

Dr. Nsouli is a consultant to the Indoor Environments Division of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and he is a senior consultant to the American Running Association with regard to exercise-induced asthma.
