If I have my Apogee Duet plugged in when my Mac starts up, I have to unplug it and re-plug it for the dial to work properly. It will act fine as a converter and I can record, no problem— but I can't push the button to show the different channels and change their level. It just shows the record channel.
Also— if I use a TRS jumper out of the headphone jack to my board, it's -10dB no matter how I set the output in the controls, and if I use a TS jumper, the feed has a ground hum.
What the hell! Am I off base with something?

I have a friend with the same issue(s) and a few more. Apogee is of no help. Try rebooting it again and again until you find it works.

Also replace your USB cable with a new shielded one. After the cable fix, my friend's Apogee Duet is working better.

Just in case you haven't already tried it... have you checked the software (it's Maestro with my Duet) for a preference or setting that may be overriding what you're doing manually?

I've been lucky with my one, but it's a lot better since I got a breakout box for the cables.

+1 for the new cable idea, Frank! it is the first thing I will try next time I start my setup.
And Simon— I was on the prowl for just that (a software override) today. We shall see how things settle out.and I will get myself the breakout box. Those damned cables are a pain in my neck.
