Okay, so I expect MOST of you Audition users are going to say "Well, DUH! Scott.... you didn't know that??"

To which I will respond now: "No, I didn't".

But now I do.

When having to edit lengthy e-learning where you are, in essence, chopping up a master file into tons of smaller files and doing a 'save as' (and, btw, YES, I use Word-2-Wav, but sometimes you simply gotta do it the 'old way'), I've always hated how Audition's 'save as' defaults to 32bit .wav. Most of my e-learning editing ends up as 128k, 16 bit .mp3.

So rather than click on about 5 things each time I wanted to do a 'save as', I was actually doing my editing in my 14+ year old Cool Edit Pro version, but it has its drawbacks, too. Very slow, for one thing and more tedious to do volume tweaking, etc.

I finally realized that rather than do a 'save as' in AA, you can just export the file and it defaults to whatever your last export settings were. Plus, I use keyboard shortcuts on AA (such as F2 for 'save as' and F3 for 'export') and now it's a breeze to theoretically save as, in the right format, without having to change bit rate, file type, etc, on every single file.

Not sure if I completely understand your process for exporting from Audition, but mine is this (hoping this might save you some time):

I don't physically chop up anything into individual files. From within the edited "master," I highlight the audio for each "slide" and create "ranges" by putting a pair of sub-clip markers around each (option+m in Mac). The markers appear in the Markers window (bottom-left).



When finished creating the markers, I export from the Markers window by selecting all the ranges and clicking the Export button (the 5th icon from the left at the top of the Markers window), and choosing my export options. I export them into a folder, then zip the entire folder for delivery.

I like doing it this way because it keeps the master file intact, and any subsequent revisions can be made to the same file and only the revised portions are exported easily again.

That's a great way to do it, too, Mike, and one I wasn't aware of. But I still have to edit each individual file for mistakes and trimming, so I still have to do the one-at-a-time "export as..." deal.

No, you didn't. I didn't realize you edited within the master FIRST and then exported.

Either way is probably about the same in terms of time, since in your case you have to add markers. In my case, I DON'T add markers, but I do highlight each segment and copy to a new file, edit and then do my export function.
