slightly OT - but i added a new monitor this weekend - replaced the old one because it took a dump --- went 4k because i'm doing a LOT of video editing nowadays and i wanted to go as big as i could afford. 32" viewsonic with IPS panel 99% srgb reproduction - and WOW! what a difference. after i got it calibrated it made my 50" led TV look like the p.o.s. 19" monitor to the left in the pic. (which is STILL better for viewing text, btw).

really, the only reason i'm posting is that i did a LOT of research on 4k monitors - so if somebody else is looking to make the leap - i might be able to offer a bit of assistance.

WOW!

Of course I can't see HOW Wow it is because I'm not looking at the picture of your 4k monitor on a 4k monitor of my own. But I recently went from two 24" Dells, to a new 32" BenQ, which is pretty darn nice and I can see most of your Wow! And WOW, yours looks awesome!

At what size does a monitor become difficult to work with? I have a 27" that is good, but I was considering getting a 4k TV as a second monitor instead.

jason - i would say if you don't have a specific reason to go 4k --- don't. the reason i kept the 1024 19" monitor is to read copy on. on the 4k the type is infinitesimally small. that said - if you're watching blu-ray movies it's the bomb! the big deal for me is true blacks and accurate color reproduction - which i COULD have gotten with a less expensive 1080 monitor --- but i'm trying to get (a little bit) ahead of the curve.

Blu-ray shouldn't look better on a 4k tv since Blu-ray maxes out at 1080p.

it's not the resolution as much as it is the ips panel vs. a tn paneland the extremely accurate color reproduction. it's no studio-grade monitor - but it's the best one i could find under $1k.
