VERY creative, Todd! I'll definitely consider this, too.

Thanks!

I just went with one from Bed Bath & Beyond... they market them as being for use in the kitchen. I also put a throw rug on top of it so if I shift my weight while recording there's no shoe noise.

And for a standing desk, I was looking for something with a smaller footprint (my speakers are on isolated floor stands and my main monitor is on a shelf) so I got a kitchen island... looks great, perfect size for my needs.

The kitchen island is a terrific idea, Chris!

As for the mat, my Chiropractor's foot stool suggestion – and the idea behind Topo; that one leg is raised somewhat and then switched for the other is that the physical movement (not just the shifting of weight) is important for at least the lumbar portion of the spine. I've begun working on the lower back issues I already have, which have recently begun to creep into sciaitca, and the discomfort and pain can be very intense. You want to do whatever possible to keep that from happening. Wink

Taking Todd's idea one step further, you could go with electric actuators rather than the hand operated jack stands. If you google "electric actuator for desk" you will find a surprising number of solutions to choose from.

here's another cool-looking standing mat.

Didn't Marty McFly have one of those?

If it's still August 13, 2015, check out the deal of the day at www.woot.com

Well, I really like this Middle Atlantic video workstation desk that I've had for 10 years, now. But... needs change over time, and I guess it's time. At 125 pounds, the desk is too heavy to maneuver safely by myself, which would make raising it and having it remain safely stable a very involved task. Plus, I'm not even using its built-in rack spaces anymore. So...

Lee's latest possible solution wins! I've ordered the "Cool Living Up Desk" from Woot. I'm guessing, with the quickly increasing popularity of standing desks, today's price of $289 will never be seen again, or at least for some time. THANK YOU, LEE! And thank you also to everyone who contributed great options for raising the desk. I very much appreciate the time you took to think about it.

NOW I just have to figure out where I can find people who might be interested in buying the Middle Atlantic desk. Again, it's a corner-style desk with a monitor overbridge that features user-configurable rack spaces (4), pictured below as it appeared in 2007:

I wish I had the option of putting a desk in my booth that could go from sitting to standing position, but my space is so small, I am relegated to standing only. I can fit a chair (bar stool, actually) inside the booth but when I do, there's not enough room for me to sit in it.
This is my "desk:" www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00223618/
topped with one of these: http://www.staples.com/Innovera-Standard-Desktop-Keyboard-Drawer-Light-Gray-354-H-x-22-W-x-1559-D/product_IVR53001
with my Mackie mixer on top of that.

Hey... whatever works! Y'know?

I should point out that I don't yet have the luxury of a booth. My mic is not used at this desk; it's out in the living room – at a standing height – surrounded by a couple of ClearSonic panels and some theatrical drape. it's really quiet here, except when the land(sc)rapers come out to play or when single-prop planes (more frequent during summer when towing boardwalk bar banners) pass nearby.

The Digi002, Telos Zephyr, Focusrite mic pre and other gear are now located in/on a separate Middle Atlantic rack cabinet.
