OMG, I look like a maniac. Better for me to keep hair up, comrade. Smile It's too bad we didn't get a shot with Mary as well.

What a blast. Today is like December 26th. It's that old "Santa's already come and gone" blues hitting me today. Or maybe it's the "back to the day job" blues... Hmmm.. I'll have to dig deeper on that one.

I can't wait to hear how my gay cowboy sounded. Undecided

That's actually a prop mic-- it's just a stand for the talkback switch.

We were at the National Boston/Rumblestrip Audio studios. What a great facility! Very comfortable. and loads o' space, and an awesome kitchen. Wow.

Now I'm no longer inebriated, I'm hung over.
Meh.

Pat is still asleep. He heads back to L.A. today.

So let me understand this...there was alcohol involved in a Fraley weekend (gasp Wink )?!

And let me guess...during the class you met a bunch a people you didn't know previously who's voice talking talent blew you away?

It happened to me when I went and I still think that epiphany was one of the best parts of the class for me.

Question

Good Lord, that does sound sketchy doesn't it?!
Sorry

Pat came home with me last night after the class so he could meet my husband. Pat likes DeWitt's artwork.

The libations were plentiful and we all went to bed rather happy, I must say.

DeWitt is still asleep, too.

POST instruction, for heaven's sake! Can you imagine liquor mixed in with a character study class? Yipe.

This paticular weekend had a number of people I DID know and that was a total scream.
Getting to meet the Lovely and Talented Mary McK and the Maniacal Greg Littlefield was a high point of the weekend. And there were other Voice Talkers there whom I had met under other professional circs, as well as a few who were totally new to me.

Pat was Super Teacher and I was the Sidekick for the weekend. I got an official Voice Talker Cape and everything*.

Saturday covered what Pat calls the 9 Critical Skills to Voice Over Success. We talked about the importance of Text analysis, acting, energy, relaxation, mic technique, improv, etc--discussing their application to VO. It was a way to identify one's strengths and weaknesses and confront one's fears. It was a long day!

Sunday was a Character workout and a half. Pat's got a way of separating the aspects of voice production so you can identify what makes a certain character voice sound the way it does--AND it helps you remember how you made the voice in the first place so you can keep it.
So often we'll create a nifty character, but since we don't use it every day, we can't bring it up again in just the same way. This facets-of-the-voice-gem approach is dandy for the creation and retention of characters.

One of the guys in the class is a graphic artist and had made drawings of his characters. Wow-- I know what mine look like, but I don't think I could put them down on a page like that!

*Just kidding about the cape.

Looks like fun DB. Are you sure that was Greg you have a picture with or was Jean Claude Van Damme there at the weekend? I hear he can do some kickbutt voice talking.

Deirdre,

Do I see Dick Terhune in those photos? He's an old friend from the Dan O'Day events, and if it's not him, it's his twin.

Deirdre,

Dick is indeed a Prince of a guy. I'm very glad to know him and always glad when I get to spend a bit of time with him.

Aw, crud! I was going for Steven Segal! *sigh* back to the drawing board...

Maybe I shouldn't have used that word... But hey, if it gets people wondering about me, what the hell? The whole weekend started off right for me with a great big hug from Pat's "sidekick". The rest of the class was icing. Smile

I got back to Bangor about 11:15 last night and was still too wired to get to sleep right away. I was exhausted, but felt like I took a lot away from the weekend. I have a better idea of how to get my ducks in line and start shaking things from out here in the woods. Thanks again for making it happen, Deebs! And thanks to Pat for coming up here, too!

No, you should have seen me BEFORE I left, Jeff. My eyes were much more Marty-Feldman-esque and I couldn't smile so good...
