Would it be correct to say that...

It is reasonable to expect more payment for a CHARACTER VOICE...versus what might be considered a NON CHARACTER VOICE for a given project?

OR...should it make no difference?

It might be reasonable to expect more payment for doing multiple characters in a single project, although even that is not necessarily a given, but more money for doing a character as opposed to a "normal" voice? Not in my experience.

I've never considered it as an additional line item. I have a number of voices that I use, straight business, vox populi, public school twit, best friend, boss, etc. ... at which point does an exaggeration become a character? They may say (and they usually do) can we have it like... John Cleese, Richard Attenborough, Ray Winstone, Jason Statham or whoever as a reference... it's all in a days work. Anything you do in anything other than your natural speaking voice is "character" in one form or another. Or, as Philip will probably say "it's acting".

A number of my friends here in the UK fill social media with reports of their latest character voice jobs, the devil is in the detail. In the majority of cases they are doing the voice, sometimes an impression of someone famous, for the union minimum single local radio station commercial rate of less than £25.

Money is not made because you can juggle it's made because 2 million people will pay to watch you.

That's a line worth quoting! Marvelous reminder.

Makes no difference the delivery. A commercial is a commercial. A promo is a promo. Etc. It's a different skill to do character voices, but it's not compensated as a better or more difficult skill.

Now, that said, if you do something of value, like SpongeBob or you are the ongoing voice of an animated cereal commercial mascot, your agent will probably be able to negotiate better day rates and residuals than scale. But it's not based on the skills needed. It's based on your value to the job.

other side of the coin here: I had the best luck of getting double scale for creating a female version of Arnold Schwartzenegger for a video game.
It took quite a bit of work to get it right and I was thrilled to be compensated for it.
