VO-BB - 20 YEARS OLD!

On this date in 1994, still believing radio was a secure future for me (fool!) and several years before deciding to explore VO full-time, I moved into my elegant new one-bedroom condo in the growing northwest corner of beautiful Austin, Texas. New, as in seven years old. Pre-wired for fiber and with central air conditioning, washer and dryer, dishwasher, 10-foot ceilings, patio AND a fireplace. 537 square feet… for $525/month.

I sure miss that condo… but not radio.

Lesson: Things change very quickly. Enjoy the ride, but pay attention. Wink

That's wild, Mike. It was in August of 1994 that I had moved into an apartment/roommate situation in the Southwest corner of Austin (down by the IRS on IH35) after being unceremoniously jettisoned from my MD/afternoon drive gig in Waco. After six month in that position. My uncle had just moved his family from L.A. that summer, so I went to work for him doing data entry and systems admin stuff while doing part-time work at Z102. I'm still in IT today. Not as much fun, but it's paid the mortgage consistently.

After getting married, my wife and I bought a 1,400 sq/ft HUD repo house off of Brodie Lane for about $75k. It's going for $205K today.

Now, I'm watching the last of the fall leaves drop off the trees as I drive to work. Best part of the day until I am settled into working in my little room alone full time and can jettison IT for good. Wink

Z102, eh? Hmmm... quite actually – while you were working on the 9th floor at 811 Barton Springs Road – I may well have been down on the 5th floor at Oldies 103.

i don't know if this is the same subject - but i got my report from the gub'ment a couple of weeks ago & have been thinking a lot about it --- in 1989 - the year i decided i was making enough in radio to get married - i raked in $11,400. and, thinking back on it ... that was enough.

No, I don't know Don Wayne. Nor do I know Jim Spector beyond a simple acquaintance. He was/is a nice guy, and a number of people have echoed your feelings about working with him. I knew Oldies had moved to the 9th floor, but that occurred after I left in November 1996. I was Oldies' Production Director and was also on-air weekends.
