Hello exalted experienced ears!
I moved this from the "critique" forum because this place seemed to be getting more traffic. (I hope no one minds!) I'm doing my first mic shootout, and I would greatly appreciate your feedback. The mics? Sennheiser 416 and MK4. I'm trying to decide which should be my primary mic, and which applications each is best suited for.

The first two clips were recorded simultaneously into the audient id22, with mics equidistant from my mouth (about 6 inches), pointing at each corner of my mouth. The second two were recorded more like how I normally would address them, slightly off axis and facing the mic.
As always, thank you for your help!
Warmest Regards,

I'm guessing that in both instances the first takes are the MK4, followed by the 416 |

Actually, it was:
1. 416
2. Mk4
3. Mk4
4. 416
Thank you for weighing in, Elwood! _________________ "There's Magic all around us; you just have to see it. And the most wonderful Magic of all, is just bein' alive." -Uncle Montork, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe |

I missed the deadline...but the 416 definitely has more low end and is a bit less balanced. The MK4 is kind of boring to my ears...but how does each sit in a mix? If you were shooting for the best without production, I'd go for the 416...but I would probably go with the 416 for WITH production too LOL |

Thanks, Jason! Don't worry, no deadline necessary! I agree there's nothing exciting going on with the mk4, but I kinda like it that way, it just sounds like me. But the 416 def adds some much needed low end. I think I'll swap it out for awhile and see if it makes any waves! _________________ "There's Magic all around us; you just have to see it.
