When this idea was put together http://www.vo-bb.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18415 I didn't really think it through at all! If people AREN'T making money from VO work how on earth are they going to find $97 to learn how to make money from VO work?

Here's the plan. If no one shows up for the event I will stand outside the building in which Edge Studio is housed and hand people who look as if they may like to get money from A voice over $97, in cash, no questions asked.

On presentation of a SAG/AFTRA card it will be $97 + agent + paymaster + pension and health insurance - less with holding tax unless the VO is an LLC or simply dishonest. If it is "The Dutchman" I will stand by for a blog stating I was trying to buy friends or for any WoVo members cash will be in a glass case for the purposes of transparency.

11.15 Got to the pub.

A very nice person asked me if my 4 hour "wisdom sharing" would be available as a webinar, online Skype or other virtual experience to which I politely replied that it would not. To get the best out of some things one has to get out and hit the streets. In the case of my "thingy" and others like it the room dynamic is essential.

Many believe that our jobs are about sitting in a closet reading out loud. Not true. The virtual world enables us when the accepted options are not open to us. The "virtual world" is and should always remain the last option NOT the first choice. For far too many in our work, their work and tragically in their lives the Cyber disconnect is the first choice.

One of my greatest pleasures in life is picking up the phone in response to an email because it scares the sh*t out of so many people. If I lived closer I'd show up at their front door with a freshly baked pie. Would they eat it? Probably not but it would be photographed and posted on Facetube.

I'm in agreement, Philip! I myself do not teach via Skype or anything electronic. I know many do, and many like it. I just find I'm not able to do it justice. Too much distance, technically, physically, and emotionally between me and the student. My LA class has about a 3 year wait list, and I know I could shorten that list if I did Skype lessons. The Skyped student wouldn't get as much out of it as the live one on one student. Plus, I teach three 8 week sessions a year in LA, and 2-4 weekend workshops around the country. I don't want to add to my load with Skype coaching.

I aslo find many out there don't want it good, they want it now. What they need to understand is, the buyers want it good. Convenient doesn't always mean good.

As a recipient of one of these phone calls, I can attest to this fact. However, I am immensely grateful for the scare.

When you live in East Jesus, Maine, Skype is rather a necessity.
