I remember musing about this when I was working for a corporate multimedia production house in the late 70s. A project would come in; one the client needed turned around very quickly. There was precious little time, but we'd get it done. And then... oh, revisions? To the project they needed right away. In many cases, revisions were quite extensive, requiring considerable additional time to complete.

"Hmmm," I thought, "there's barely enough time to get it done right the first time but, amazingly, there always seems to be enough time to do it all over again."

In early October, a client alerted me to a pending job requiring an immediate turnaround for their client; a job that was going to come in during the third week of October. Apparently due to script finalization, the job didn't come in until nearly the end of October. The job was turned around and delivered immediately.

A week later, despite the script "finalization" that caused the delay, it's revision time. And the revisions are turned around and delivered right away.

Today, a few more revisions. And guess what? This revised script is made up of about 95% of what had been in the originally produced script but which was deleted in the first round of revisions.

It's now a full month beyond the date they wanted the project completed. Now we know why prices for some products are so high.

Who's complaining? Voice-over is the most expensive proofreading there is.

Reminds me of when I used to be a radio production director. I was always after the sales people to get their stuff in as early as possible on Fridays, and they were always waiting until 4:30 (or later) to turn in their work orders. Naturally, they always blamed the clients for not having their material ready. However, when those same sales people were taking a long weekend or preparing to leave for vacation, those same clients were suddenly able to have their stuff ready by noon. Go figure.

If one thinks of a corporation as a person then we would understand more about a corporation, more about people and more about the one person at the centre of our universe YOU (or in my case me).

We have systems in place, strategies and goals designed to distract us from one fact - Every day most of us, most corporations do not have to struggle to survive. We, ME and YOU do nothing better than Faff about every day. I can do nothing about you or them but I can choose to do something about me. I have already done something about it and every day I fine tune it.

Where to start? - No. That's it, one word. No.

"Please leave feedback about your recent customer experience" - NO, because it is free advertising for your company. Send a link to my VO web site and THEN I'll do it.

"Please comply for no reason at all" - NO!

"Please express an opinion on a subject for which you have no opinion" - No!

You get the idea. Say no, de-clutter your life and your mind will follow, stop making excuses for other people, take responsibility for your own actions, remember that Customer Service is a department not an intention, no corporation is capable of negligence or a crime but the people in it ARE, every day know that you are here to survive and thrive NOT like this on Facetube.

Corporately the above constitute my KPIs!

Now THAT was almost a threadjck but I'll be printing the content and sticking where I can see it coz it is a work of genius! Laugh
