Hello Everybody,
I finally found a decent booth solution locally. Picked up a Drum Perfect Silencer Concert series for $800, no shipping as I picked it up myself in my minivan. Yeah Craigslist!
I decided I was probably not going to get "sound proof" with a pre-fab booth, without a lot of work and expenses. I say, I decided, but mostly the fine folks here convinced me. Thanks again.
I can say, the booth sounds really good. The booth is in the shape of a giant trapezoid, so it doesn't sound too boxy, I don't think...
I doctored it up a bit. I am using it at about half the size. At this size, I was able to use what were the short 3 foot absorption panels as a floor instead to help eliminate low frequency rumble from the floor. This also allowed me to have the tall 6 foot absorbers all the way around instead of only in the back as designed. Some of you may have heard I recently scored 18 Producers choice acoustic blankets for free. So, what I did was zip tie 2 of those together and sandwich them around each of the plexiglass shields in the front and sides of the booth. That helped to cover any exposed seems.
It does help a lot. I don't think I'll be able to record round the clock. I am able to block out most of the sounds outdoors which is great. I still have issues with my kids banging around the house. I may just have to live with that.
All in all I'm very satisfied...for now. I'm sure I'll get the itch to upgrade again soon _________________ http://www.paulstefano.com |
