VO-BB - 19 YEARS OLD!

So, some of you might have seen my post over in the VOBS forum. My studio ceiling leaked during a recent storm, and some of my equipment got wet, including my Audient ID22. :( Circuitry was fried, and I hurriedly ordered an ID14 as a replacement (I figured I wasn't taking advantage of the full functionality of the unit anyway, and I could use the extra funds for any other replacements if necessary.) It arrived yesterday, and I tried to record some pickups for an elearning project I recorded before the storm, using my Sennheiser MK4 and Mogami Silver cable.

Unfortunately, I just can't get them to match up; it sounds thinner, shriller, noisier, and just different, which doesn't make sense since the ID14 and 22 share the same preamp. I'm beginning to think the interface wasn't the only thing damaged in the storm. :( :( If anyone is willing to give a listen and add some insight, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I didn't listen to your sample, but I can share a previous experience where it was discovered that simply being in an environment of higher than moderate humidity for several days was enough to create a distinct difference in sound with a pair of Neumann mics. Once this was realized and the mics placed back into their boxes with the small packet of silica gel (desiccant; moisture-absorbent), the mics soon recovered.

So, even though your mic may not have received direct water damage, it's possible humidity might be causing the problem you're experiencing. I believe some form of desiccants are available in some stores, but you might also use a dehumidifier.
