I tried to send a Private Massage the other night and it didn't work. It seems one of my BOXES if full. I guess I don't understand the SENT box, the OUT box and the SAVE box. Where can I read up on this?
Can I archive old messages before cleaning up BOXES. Does kitty litter work? |

Private MASSAGE? Well no wonder.
I doubt there's enough storage room on the server to handle that, Vernon. _________________ Scott R. Pollak

You can continue to send and receive PM's even if the boxes are full. Any of them will only hold 50 at a time, so the oldest get deleted if you send another.
You might be able to see the sent PM in your OUTBOX. If it's there, it means the recipient hasn't logged in since you sent it.
It goes into the SENT box once they've logged in, because they'll get an email, a pop-up message, or a simple alert at the top of the main page announcing a new private message.
If you want to archive stuff you've written, I'm afraid the solution is to copy it to a text document and save it on your own computer.
Is this helpful? _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Ooooops! There might be room on the server for a PRIVATE massage, but the crowd that might gather for a PUBLIC massage might be the factor that would overload.
Whether an overload crowd would gather would depend on the other person in this massage. I don't think a crowd is going to gather to see ME! |

Remember if you get a Private Massage to leave something in the Tip Jar. |

Vernon,
One other thing to keep in mind (because this has bitten me a few times) is that if you try to send a private message on the board WITHOUT a subject, it will fail. Put in a subject line and it should work every time because your oldest previous sent message will just roll off into the bit bucket. _________________ Be well,

When did the boxes become self eliminating? _________________ "Bailey"

The weird thing is that the body of the message was stripped off, and all the recipient received was a header WITH a subject but no further content. He sent me a message pointing that out. I created the message again, and once again he received only the TITLE. Then I discovered the BOXES were full so I eliminated (manually) a few messages and I created the message again, and this time it went through. And again, in MY FILES there was no unsent original message. Where it should be was the message with no body content. |

While I've not had a problem sending or receiving private messages here, I hugely prefer getting an email. They're much easier (in my mind) to deal with. Plus I have more than enough email and message a s to check as it is. Oy.

Bailey, they're always been "self eliminating". The oldest gets dumped when the new one slots in.
Some characters wreak havok on this BB's architecture. The Em-dash in particular. They'll break whatever follows, or destroy titles. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

I am a member of YOUR TRIBE on that issue. As an observer of private or off-line messages in various venues, I gather a number of people guard their e-mail address as though it had been inherited from a great-great aunt of British Royals ancestry and must not be allowed to see daylight! |
