wow-- you know what would be fun and too expensive to really consider?
an EAST COAST STUDIO CRAWL.
can you imagine?
Start with Bill Elder and then Bob Souer, move up to meet Brian Hart and Rowell Gorman, and Chriss White, crash in on Anthony, and Kevin Genus, take Mary McK to lunch and then pick up Chuck Davis and come up to Camp Cooper for a weekend cookout.
I'll bet I missed someone-- I'm relying on my own bad geography and Frappr. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

I'm with you, Tom. Or maybe lagging behind you. Since our stuff is in various locations, I have two bookshelves, 2.5 feet apart, postioned against the wall (3rd wall) with their backs facing each other. A blanket makes the fourth wall. Sure cut out the extra echo in the basement, but it's nowhere near where I want it right now. Good enough for practicing and some basic stuff I'm doing for a friend at the moment.
One life lesson (of sorts) that I'll quickly pass on... Back in high school, I had a black Memphis Stratocaster copy that I had bought with some money I saved while working at the restaurant. I played it a LOT and practiced and practiced and eventually got frustrated with the way I sounded playing it because I knew it wasn't a real Fender. I thought I'd sound better if I had only had a real Strat... Enter a friend of mine who was considerably better; he picked up that lil' Memphis and took it for such a ride and just made it WAIL. I stood there slacked-jawed and watched him as he shredded the crud out of those strings on MY guitar. When he finished, he put it down, nodded his head and said to me, "Nice action, man!".
It wasn't the equipment that held me back, it was me.
...and 25 years later, I still have that friggin' guitar, too. _________________ Greg Littlefield

That would be perfect because, after all these years, it would sound like a faux ditty! (no, NOT Bo Diddly...)

Deirdre,
Brian Haymond is also here in Charlotte. Russ McLamb is a bit west of me near Asheville, NC. And one of our newest members. The Voice of Bob (not me) is also located here in Charlotte.
However, I must tell you that any tour of studios is going to need to by-pass the Bob Souer facility. It's not fit for viewing by anyone with a professional sensibility. And may never be. Astonishing what I've been able to accomplish here in spite of that.
But, I love the idea of the tour up the coast that you've suggested. If we kept going north and east, we'd eventually get to Newfoundland and I think we have one member up there, Joan Hall Hovey, is that right? _________________ Be well,

Well, since you're coming down South and I'm not that far from Bill Elder...just cruise on over to South Alabama. I'm painting my BIG OLD house. I'll have a brush for each of ya! Still plenty warm down here for such things
Here's my home as featured on a postcard from the early 1900's. This home was built in 1912. |

Allen,
What a beautiful house. I was in LA (Lower Alabama, for the uninitiated) in April for a Franklin Graham crusade in Mobile. It's a beautiful part of the world. _________________ Be well,

Bob, Joan is in New Brunswick, not Newfoundland.
Of course you could always make a left turn somewhere and visit Peter in Buffalo and me in Toronto. _________________ Elaine

Elaine,
Thank you. I was writing from memory (always a bad idea) rather than taking the time to look her up in the memberlist. Still New Brunswick is North of Maine. And I agree, a left through Buffalo and on to Toronto would be a great way to end this adventure, especially if we start as far from the East Coast as Alabama! _________________ Be well,

Thanks guys! It is a very unique house AND is very large for just two people and one small dog. It's 3000 square feet with 11 foot ceilings and original hardwood floors all through-out. I'm painting it myself and it's definitely a slow go. If anyone is down this way, stop in for the .25 cent tour
sorry for the threadjack... |
