How do you differentiate between a 'local' spot and a 'regional' one?
Got a client who's confused and the rate is a difference of $200.
He says:
Quote:
This airs in a small, 3-county range, same area code (as opposed to 1/2 the state, etc.)

Help me get him the right quote please!
Thanks

Sounds local to me. Local generally refers to one market. Regional encompasses multiple markets in a region, and may or may not cross state lines.

I only know of union rates:

I think your question is grey and a matter of semantics. But I'm also note versed in the world of non Union .

i would say that it probably depends on what "region" you are talking about. but in iowa (as in most parts of illinois, where i am) i would likely consider it "local".

I think good tips on whether to consider something is regional are total population served or number of cities (versus towns). There's also "state-wide" as a reference. Three small population counties could be considered local for sure.

Sorry to say there's no non-union guide written in stone that I know of.

Yeah, it seems like it's completely subjective by and large.
I charged them a local rate.
What can I say, I"m a nice guy (despite what my wife says).

No non-union guide written in stone but if you're of a mind to delve into figuring out union rates, they're broken down here http://www.voiceoverx.com/deciphering-tv-cable-and-radio-commercial-rates/

Bring a calculator. The links to units and rate sheets in the examples will give you all the info you need to figure them out.
