Got this email recently:
Quote: | I hope this email finds you well today! I wanted to touch base and introduce myself - my name is Julianna and I’m an Account Manager with Voices.com. I see you created an account with us a while ago, and I thought I’d check in.
I was wondering if you’re still looking for voice-over work?
I’m asking because we’re currently looking for new voices, and would love for you to audition for our daily job postings. We have about 150-200 new voice-over job opportunities posted per day from our clients, and I think you could be a good fit for many of them!
If you’re ready to start auditioning, I also wanted to share that we have a special offer on our Premium Annual Membership this week and next - click here and use promo code DISCOUNT100 to get $100 off, but just until Friday, February 12th.
I’d love to chat about any of these details further, or to answer any questions you may have. Do you have time to talk on the phone for about 5 minutes? My office hours are from 12pm to 8pm ET. Are you available today? I look forward to speaking with you!
Best wishes,
Julianna Lantz |
They seemed to have forgotten my many angry phone calls and emails to them over the past couple of years. My response:
Quote: | As a truly professional voice talent, Voices.com is one of the last places on Earth I would think of joining (again).
After all of the terrible decisions your owners have made in business and public relations it would be insanity to support you.
One example: Offering certain voice talents a first crack at auditions if they paid more, and not telling your rank and file members? That's called fraud in my book.
So no. I would also like my free profile removed. Can you arrange that?
Thank you,
Bruce |
Sheesh.

I actually feel sorry for some of their account managers (or casting directors as they sometimes laughably call them). It must be a thankless task as it puts them in direct line of fire when they try to solicit subscriptions from VOs who have pointedly chosen not to subscribe. To be repeatedly told that they are working for a predatory, parasitic, and pariah-esque company must make them question their career choices.
Hopefully. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

I guess this post borders on being a thread hijack. As mentioned before, I am orchestrating a relocation. And last night I did something I should have remebered from several months back is a useless venture.
I first did a Google search and then a Yellow Pages on-line search of the place where I will be moving. I wanted to know: Who if anyone is in the voice-over trade there? Is there already a covey of established professionals there and my efforts should be addressed primarily as it is now.... to distant customers.
The Internet and virtually free phone calls have changed our society in many good ways, but may be the doom of some parts of our civilization. (Political nuts and religious nuts can now flood the market place with their venom for free... they no longer need to pay the printer and pay the postage!)
After more than 30 internet pages of listings by Fiver and people like Voices.com (over and over and over) and talent trainers and assorted other vagabonds, I still cannot tell you if there is a single human being in all of Madison WI who actually has any sort of legitimate established voice over business in the market.
Oh, I'm sorry. Didn't realize I had the RANT AFTERBURNERS set on FULL THROTLE. And now we return to our regularly scheduled program.... of packing moving boxes! |

I got the same email and responded the same way LOL. Well I didn't ask to remove the free profile because I still have the occasional client who will contact me through there because that is where they found me and then I just direct them to my email.
Actually, I wasn't quite as rough...but I did ask that they stop sending their discount emails and began my email with "As an actual professional voice talent..."
Maybe they'll think?? |

Well this they did quickly and correctly:
Quote: | Hi Bruce,
I hope this email finds you well. As requested, your account has been deleted.
We're sorry to lose you as a member of Voices.com. Was there something in particular that you were unsatisfied with?
Any feedback you provide would be greatly appreciated. Please know that you're welcome to join again at any time.
Best wishes,

I'd respond to his question (of which I'm sure he knows my possible answers) but I'm trying to keep my BP low these days.
Mm bye bye V.com.

I've heard from reliable sources that one's presence on P2P will disqualify one from consideration by many Los Angeles Talent Agents. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

That's interesting. I received a response recently from a talent manager in L.A. asking whether or not I was on any subscription services like voice123.
Have your reliable sources indicated whether or not the freebie accounts count as a "presence?" After my decision last year to not resubscribe to voices.com, I wouldn't be averse to getting that account or the freebie account that I haven't used in years at voice123.com removed. _________________ Cheers,

If you're available there, they don't like it.
To the point that they may not bother considering you at all. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Thanks, Deirdre. I'll see about getting rid of the profiles. If I'm not going to be a paid subscriber for specific reasons, maybe I should just not be there at all. _________________ Cheers,

We humble voiceoverists really do have to be Amish voiceoverists - Come out from among them and be ye separate. Interesting to note that being found on Subscription Sites is only the ice of the tipberg. Routine non-inclusion, removal and disassociation is the way ahead.
I was told by someone that a number of the VO grate and good "didn't like me because" ..At that point I stopped listening. Like most people, on a personal level I prefer to be liked but on a business level, nobody cares what a nobody thinks.

I like you Philip! That and 75 cents will buy you a phone call. Do they still have phone booths in the UK?
In fact, in one of those "VO people" facebook groups there was a poll called "Who is your VO hero" you know who I wrote? YOU! _________________ http://www.paulstefano.com |

They do still have phone boxes in the UK, not as many as there were.
So, you have raised my flag on Factube? Thank you. At WoVo meetings there is spittoon, for at the mere mention of my name executives AND members are required to spit. What a waste of good baccy! |
