This made its way into a firearms-related discussion board that I frequent, and I thought I'd share it here. Having never been in the cockpit of anything, let alone a fighter, I figured that warnings like this would be in the form of loud buzzers instead of a voice.

A buzzer is one signal. If you go out to your local airport and rent a trainer plane, it will probably be equipped with a buzzer, and it will signal to you that you are flying to slow and about to accomplish a stall... that moment when the airflow over the wings cannot support the weight and if you do not correct, you will fall out of the sky. (It ain't purty when that happens!)
But the human voice can be programmed to give advice on HUNDREDS of circumstances. If all the had was a buzzer, and it buzzed how would you know if that mean: fuel tank is about empty. You a landing with the wheels up. Pull up because you are too close to the ground. Air speed is too high.
How would you know what the little buzzer was trying to tell you? |

There was an article several years ago about certain women voice tones and pitch that tend to command our attention best. |

I'm sure, if they could do it, they would make the warning sound like the pilot's mother. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Lee I think you're onto something and that maybe why they use a motherly (or grandmotherly) sounding voice. _________________ Gregory Best

If I met the lady who did the voices... I guess I would ask: "Did they every have you read one where you voice the question DID YOU PUT ON CLEAN UNDERWEAR THIS MORNING?" |

Tech stuff. In pressure situations the Pilot will focus on problem solving and muscle memory will fly the aircraft. As things deteriorate muscle memory WILL make the Pilot do something he would not normally do which is why Bitchin' Betty is there, she saves lives every day. EVERY SINGLE DAY. |

Another clear case of, "in tough situations always listen to your woman!!"
They frequently see what you don't.
