I voiced a character for a trailer for the next big Dreamhack convention. I guess I'd be even more excited if I really knew what it was.

They slowed me down and lowered the pitch a titch. Odd.
Their Wikipedia page says, "DreamHack is the world's largest digital festival, a local area network gathering with live concerts and competitions in digital art and esports." As Letterman used to quiz, "is it anything?"

Dreamhack is a big deal in live video and computer gaming. As an example: the current prize pool for top-3 finishers in the computer game Counter-Strike:GO is $250,000.
So, yeah, Bruce, you're gonna reach a lot of kids that will looove the VO in this spot. |

The slightly slowed thing makes you sound like Donald Southerland as President Snow. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Ow. Things didn't end too well for him.

Probably better not to know at the time.

Loved it! I think the voice is perfect...even if it is slightly...tweaked. That's what producers do though right?? |

i think thats a great spot. Very compelling read. Slowed, pitched, etc. still only works if the read does.! Good work. |

Awesome stuff.
European males do not speak as low as the VOs I've been working with for dubbing lately. There is clearly a trend for downward pitch shifting. I've had clients ask me after hiring and having listened to my previous work if I could possibly go significantly lower in register; and they have even at times accepted noticeably pitch-shifted takes without flinching. Your work here isn't noticeably pitch-shifted - since your voice is huge to start with!
North American and clients from other continents don't ask for extremely-low voices. I mean, they'll want heavy, weathered, or 'low' voices - but they don't specifically ask for the frequencies to be in the basement. In the UK, they don't ask for this. Not even the Russians. Only the EU continental clients. Weird. Anyone else experience this? _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

All the time, Lance! I lived in Hungary for 10 years and pretty much EVERY working v.o. in the entire country has an insanely low basso profondo pitch. I watched a lot of subtitled television from other Euro countries (mostly German stuff) and the vast majority of ads were also featuring very low voices. I moved back to Canuckistan in 2007, but the tastes and trends don't appear to have changed much. I still have a lot of Hungarian clients and to this day get a chuckle whenever I am provided the original Hungarian v.o. as a guide. So low! (and too often with a rather hamfisted simulation of gravitas, but that's another story) _________________ Andrew Fogarasi

Swedish TV ads mostly have the insanely low gravels, yes. As a bright tenor, it's a kick in the balls, let me tell you.
The thing that strikes me is the dated feel of these ads. The scripts are so extremely sell-focused, compared to national U.S. spots that have gone more towards story-driven ideas, or gags. |

Glad I wasn't just being paranoid.
The other thing some Europeans do it compress it to death, to the point where I've done some nice projects that are completely unusable for reels. I've gone back and listened to my saved session files and wonder what their definition of 'professional' is.
Never mind all that...back to Bruce...excellent work, sir! _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

Just in case you're in Malmö, Sweden April 16-17 for the DreamHack Masters tournament you'll hear me doing the VOG intros for all the teams plus an opening video. Just recorded those. Had to happily wade through some l33t speak names for the team members.

Bruce, I'm placing bets on your work being a recurring thing, should the tournament continue in the future. |
