I'm ready to step up to a better mic pre-amp. I've never used the Symetrix, but it's been an industry standard for years. I've read and heard good things about FMR's Really Nice Pre-amp (RNP).
What are your thoughts on either (or both)?
(BTW, my mic is a Rode NT1-A) |

I used the Symetrix 528E for a couple of years. For less than a hundred bucks more you could get a Grace 101. Really clean and used in alot of production houses. The Grace is alot better pre than the Symetrix and sounds fantastic.
Never heard the RNP but I did use there RNC (Really Nice Compressor) and it was....well....really nice.
Just my .02

Russ, thanks for the word on the Grace 101. I'd never heard of it but did some searching today. The reviews sound great! It's now on my short list.
I'm hoping to get more recommendations from the swashbucklers on here! This is usually the place where opinions abound. . . . . . |

An RNP with a RNC (Really Nice Compressor) make for a good combo I've been told. I've not used the RNP, though, I did have an RNC and it was a good unit. Here's a link to Mercenary Audio. They sell them as a package.

Hey no problem, glad I could throw something else in the works to confuse ya. I just bought a new chain myself so I know how crazy it can get when trying to decide.
