I've been around a few decades now so I'm always amazed at the things I haven't learned until just recently. Two come to mind.

I heard the term "boffin" for the first time just a couple of years ago. It's a british term for a scientist or expert that's been in use since WWII.

And just yesterday I read and had to say "Yooper" for the first time. Someone from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is from the U.P. and therefore is one of those.
