A curse only those in our world endure. With it, the madness grows with every command
Turn left
There it is again! Don't you hear it?
No.
Turn Left
I'm switching voices.
No, I like her.
Turn left
And we've come full circle as the command repeats
Turn left
Arrggghh!
------
My current GPS voice has a mouth click at the beginning of Left and I feel it's driving me insane. |

I too am obsessive about mouth clicks, especially my own, so when I hear them in professionally produced audio I'm dumbfounded. I don't always get to hear the final version of things I've voiced "live", i.e. by ISDN, so all I can do is pray the producing engineer caught the offenders. Sigh.

It's why I sometimes wince now, listening to NPR. I love NPR, hardly listen to anything else - but sometimes the mouth noise makes me twitch. |

And now a question from the peanut gallery.
Is is possible to isolate mouth clicks/noises as a filter, and remove them from the track later? Or would that possibly compromise other word structures? _________________ "Bailey"

There are declick plugins (e.g., iZotope RX) that do a pretty good job. Not really a "filter" though. _________________ www.TonerVoice.com |

If I'm in control of the recording, I always edit out mouth noises before sending the file. I need to get better at just reducing/eliminating them to begin with. |

It also bugs me when I hear mouth clicks in music!
I like the late '90s band Black Box Recorder - but there are clicks all over their singing. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

Mouth clicks are like zits. Your own seem bigger than everyone else's. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Let's not forget nasal clix. Just like mouth clix only from your nasal cavity. |

Worst of all, the castanet clicks from your wife practicing for her flamenco class in the next room.

Eddie, I fight those daily. I have a deviated septum and words that end with an S sound get a small pop 2/5 times. Also, words that contain a combination of S and N, like Disney or business, get a nice pop too. Strangely, I never hear it on the TV, only when editing. |

You might try placing your mic and copy higher so that you are tilting your head back and looking "up" more. It seems to affect the way your breathing and speach are delivered. It may clear your nasal passage a bit to get rid of those clix. |

Thanks, Eddie. Unfortunately, I'm already doing just that. A few years ago I bought a new l=1&dpID=31ACScDXs1L&ref=plSrch" target="_blank" class="postlink">upright bass music stand that's 72"high. Works amazingly well for what you described. |
