This should take care of that old noisey fan on your computer. But... you'll have to wait a little while.

Since the long term plan is to put computers into our brain cavities (the Singularity is coming!!) I'm sure we'll keep seeing incredible miniaturization in the future.

I still can't believe the 2TB hard drives I have that are almost as small as a deck of cards. I bought a 10MB, yes megabyte, drive as big as a washing machine for my Dad's company some 30 years ago. The discs came in shells as big as two large deep dish pizza pans stacked.

Now stick that in your floppy drive and smoke it!

No issue although many have had it. This credit card size computer will make no noise.

ISO BOX

I don't know how serious you're being, but people do seem to go to great lengths and expense to eliminate fan noise. ISO boxes, running long cables, remote control software, ...

My solution is much simpler: I use a stand-alone recorder that has no fan (in my case it's a Tascam DP-24 that I got to serve other purposes as well). It records to an SD card which I can then remove and put into my editing computer. Copy the files off and hey, you've got a built-in back up - it's now on the SD card as well as the computer's hard drive.

In my case, the recording room's upstairs and the editing room's downstairs, so it would have been hard to find a good solution that used a single computer for everything anyway...

YMMV Smile

I guess my mileage does vary. lol.
In my case, I operate a studio that records more than just VO and quite often am producing jingles or full length CD projects. So having a computer that can accomplish large track count sessions, along with a DAW that allows for many inputs has always been part of my set up. And dealing with fan noise has always been part of it. Even in the days of tape there was tape machine noise to be dealt with. So it's all just part of the evolution of the recording arts.
Aside from installing the computer in a closet, adjacent room, or dedicated computer enclosure, which was also common with tape machines, isolation boxes are a good option when you want the compuer near or adjacent to the workstation. I switched from multi-track tape to digital (Pro Tools) in the 90's so working on a multi track system is just normal routine for me. Plus, Pro Tools is a great system for recording long format narrations as it allows for quick clean up edits on the fly.
Of course, using a small, handheld device works ok for VO too, if that's your thing.
Smile

Had an ISO Box. It worked just okay. Shortly after my purchase, my desktop crashed and I decided to upgrade a bit and bought an ultra-quiet gaming PC. Works a heck of a lot better than the IsoBox and came with fantastic media cards.

Eddie, if you purchase one of those compute cards, let us know how it goes.

I reckon you can go cheaper than an ISO box and instead focus on getting a good CPU fan as well as a magnificent case for cheaper.

Done the iso-box. Look at a Mac Mini running Windows if you don't want to stay pure Mac.

When they set the distribution and price I'll be giving it a good look.
