I got a Dell XPS laptop late last year and realized it's essentially silent. Fan hardly ever runs and the difference in the noise floor when it does is negligible. It's a power hungry quadcore i7 and I frequently have 20 tabs + Adobe audition, as well.
I use to have a MacBook air, that thing was quite loud when the fan turned on, which it does have, contrary to what many say. |

The only fanless Mac in production is the Macbook, NOT the Macbook Air. Typing on a Macbook Air now. Like any PC, it gets louder with age as the cooling system gets clogged with dust and hair. My 2014 is still quiet as a mouse unless I am rendering video. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.
