At the end of the day, how do you gear down so you can sleep?

I play a video game of some kind.
Sometimes in the company of Mister Bailey, in combination with Mister Jameson, I'll either play a casual game like Bejeweled, or a bit of an adventure game like a Final Fantasy game on my DS. It's a reward—quiet, entertaining, and nearly mindless. I like having to engage in strategy for something that has absolutely no impact on anything of real import— it's a kind of OM that allows all the creative screaming in my head to quiet down.

Watch "Law and Order." It's always on, somewhere.

Ain't dat da truth.

I take a shower, catch the local forecast for the next day, then usually watch a few minutes of Whose Line Is It Anyway while brushing the dog or the cat.

Last thing before a shower... I check email... why?
Kiss the dog and pet my wife... or is it pet the dog and kiss my wife?
Clean up... hit the sack... watch about 15 minutes of TV... and then try to get about 6 hours of *sleep.

*(Hopefully this will improve... I've had preliminary diagnosis of sleep apnea)

Read in bed for about half an hour. Problem is, if the book is really good, that half hour can stretch out to an hour or two, kind of defeating the purpose. Rolls Eyes

At the end of the day...usually 10 or 11 pm...I crash in the "big man" oversize recliner and channel surf while enjoying a glass of wine...or a bowl of ice cream...or a handful of cheetos...or popcorn... Hmmmm, I'm detecting a trend here I hadn't realized before. No wonder I have an oversize recliner...Apparently...I EAT when I call it a day!

I usually read in bed. I try to pick books of essays or fiction with reasonably short chapters so I can reach an obvious cutoff point before I fall asleep.

I've also been using a fairly geeked out system to stream podcasts from my iTunes library directly to my bedside radio. This way I can listen to some of the morning and afternoon interview shows from my favorite public radio station while I'm in bed at night.

For some reason here in Oz, I nod off around 8:30pm
My neighbours do, too.
I don't seem to need anything other than the time to sleep!
I pretend I need to read, but as soon as I pick anything up, I have to put it down again,
Then again, I get up around 4:30am to service my US clients during their business day, so I'm pretty ready for a snooze by 8:30pm.

A nice soak in the Jacuzzi - gazing at the stars - then wild crazy love making until we drop off to sleep in the wee hours of the morning exhausted.

OK, not every night...

On the off nights - it's Law and Order PLUS this basic electronic solitare game I found on an airplane about a year ago.

I often listen to lovely voice talent to fall asleep...history or nature shows on PBS or the History Channel...people like Edward Hermann, or David Attenborough and his Blue Planet series. I've Tivo'ed a bunch and have only seen the first ten minutes or so of most of them...zzzzzzzzz.
