In that regard I think the 416 is the better pick...

Far be it from me to disagree with Rob the Wise,* but I like you on #1. I just hear more You, and the 416 seems to give me a slice of You. That said--actually by Philip--you're a winner on either.

*Clearly not that far, as I went ahead and did it anyway.

I agree Jacked...you'll see that I said she would need to learn to "work" the 416. I believe once she does that the 416 has better long-term potential.

No fair providing feedback that is both thoughtful and prospective, Rob!

Thanks for the insight! My booth may be too small to get the best sound out of the 416. Perhaps someday I'll be able to build out a bigger space.

Although it's true that I believe everything I say is worth posting AT LEAST 2 times, on account of its profundity, I just wanted to point this out as self-aggrandizement can be considered a form of "announcery."

Wow, #1 sounded a lot better to me. Almost sounded like #2 was over modulating our something. Some weird pops in there. Very sharp, which is good for some things but I'd say #2 by a long shot for you. And a 416 has been my main mic since almost day one.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll try to find a script I did with the un-modded NT1a and post the same script with the updated version. I know it doesn't sound like a u87, but the mic definitely has a warmer sound now with the same low self noise of the rode. Much lower noise floor than the 416 for sure.
