I have had the same cheap-o headphone amp from Amazon for the past year and a half (Pyle PHA40). I thought it was fine unless I tried to crank the volume and then things distorted a bit. Well I was doing some music recording and I realized that it didn't sound very good and it didn't get very loud before it distorted so I decided to get a decent headphone amp (Presonus HP4).
Well let me just assure you, a cheap headphone amp is a surefire way to make you think your audio sounds bad. There is night and day difference between these amps. Not only can I now push the volume without distortion, but my overall audio tone is much better.
Lesson learned: Don't spend a bunch of money on recording equipment and treatment and then cheap out on the monitoring chain. Hearing is pretty important. |

Know the feeling, Jason! I just picked up the SPL Creon over the holidays, and this has the most powerful internal HP amp I've ever used. I get plenty of volume at 9 'o clock, and if I go to 12, I feel like I might blow my eardrums! At least I'll know my hearing's definitely failing if I start going past that. _________________ "There's Magic all around us; you just have to see it.
