Heya gang,
I need a website. I also know nothing about coding, suck at design and have a very limited sense of visual aesthetic style in general.
I'm a great guy other than that though!
I tried Squarespace and found it a little dense and not really geared for what we're trying to do here.
I also tried wix and at first glance found it a little juvenile.
I am totally not above paying someone to build it for me if I get a good deal.. and if they show me how to make little changes and updates!
Any ideas? |

I've built a site with Dreamweaver before which was OK but a bit of hard work. I now use Wix and find that it has everything I need, is very easy to use and very easy to update when necessary.
My website was created entirely using Wix and once you dig into it, you will find that it is not juvenile at all in my opinion. It has every option you need to create a high quality site.
See my link below to check it out. I pay the annual fee and don't have the Wix advertising banner. _________________ Reading, talking and listening.

I think Wix has come a long way over the years. Craig's site does not look like a Wix site of old! (what player is that, by the way). Start with a free one and then if you like what you can do, pay the sub to get rid of the Wix branding.
Personally, I currently use Squarespace for my main site... but that's soon to be replaced by something done with Joomla (still a work in progress)... but I use Wix for test sites and odd projects.
If you want to pay someone to do you a simple & effective Wordpress website, then I'd say look at http://www.voiceactorwebsites.com ... Joe Davis knows what he's doing and has become an active part of the VO community. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

Bish. The player is supplied by Wix for free. It works well and keeps track of how many plays, downloads etc. have been performed over time. It is designed more for selling music as you can set it up to charge for downloads. I have obviously set it to allow free downloads. It is also easy to change and add demos on the fly. _________________ Reading, talking and listening.

I used Squarespace to do previous band's website, only took a few hours. http://www.hardwiredband.co.uk/
It took a little while to get my head around first but it's got some pretty nifty themes and I believe the music ones have player plugins you can use for your demos. _________________ (otherwise known as Cari, if you squint it looks like Carl) |

Hey gang, thanks!
Kooky, Kari, I was wondering, I had a sq space and I think I picked the wrong theme-- do you have a couple themes that you could recommend?
Thx!!

Hi Ian!
Not to hand sorry it's been a while since I've been to that site but I do remember you could do a search on business type and I'm sure music/band came up (allowing you to uploaded your tunes/demos). Would need some tweaking to suit you as they all do but looked pretty nice! _________________ (otherwise known as Cari, if you squint it looks like Carl) |

Unless things have changed recently.
With Squarespace you can change "themes" (template) whenever you like without having to re-enter your content.
I don't think that is true with Wix.
Also with Squarespace...you don't necessarily need a "music" themed template to play audio. Simply add a "page" and at that point, you have the option of choosing the type of page that will play audio.
I've recently been working in Squarespace and am still discovering how it works.
Also...to the individual above who built a site in Dreamweaver.
God bless ya!
I started in on a Dreamweaver tutorial "one upon a time" and found it can do some amazing things. But, I finally had to decide that was a mountain I didn't have the time to climb.

I used Rapidweaver for my voiceover website
Moosevoice.com
It's not quite finished but it's doing the job.
Rapidweaver isn't quite Squarespace or Wix but definitely isn't quite Dreamweaver/coding.
My other site, politificating.com, was made through wordpress. Wordpress is pretty easy and there's plenty of themes to make it look different/unique. _________________ www.moosevoice.com |

I'm a big proponent of Wordpress. I've worked with many different types of websites over the last 20 years - hard-coded, WYSIWIG, various content management systems - and Wordpress is the best because it's flexible, powerful, has a million different plugins (often free) that add functionality, and it's very secure.
I'm not a fan of sites like Wix because I hear folks complaining that, yes, it's easy to set up a site, but they can't customize it the way they want and they eventually get frustrated and give up. If you just want a basic one-page site, I'm sure it's fine. But eventually most people want functionality of some sort to keep their site current and dynamic.
Of course I build Wordpress sites for people too I built a site for Chris Rice at www.ricevoice.com
