|
|
You may have recently received an audition with this glib info on the pay scheme:
Quote: | Conflicts: Local hospitals
Rate:
$800.00 ea. per 2 TV spots, no session fee
$250.00 ea. per 2 TV Alt spots,no session fee (No reads for these TV Alts/visual updates only.)
Usage: Talent usage fee based on 2yr Term - Local Akron/Cleveland markets only. All mediums to include: broadcast, internet, industrial, social (FB, Instagram, etc.) |
Here's what it SHOULD pay, if it were a union-covered job:
Quote: | Let’s assume a typical Cleveland buy, along with cable and all the additional fixins’:
Cleveland, OH Broadcast, 4 Wild Spot Units: $552.23
Cable System, 660,000 H SS (household subscribers): $305.54
Total Wages for broadcast/cable usage, one 13 weeks: $857.77
For one year: $3,431.08
For an additional 9 Months (Max Use only goes 21 months): $7,719.93
Internet, 1 Year: $2,146.45
Additional 9 Months: $2,146.45
New Media, 1 Year: $2,146.45
Additional 9 Months: $2,146.45
Theatrical/Industrial: $808.06
Wages only above-- so add an additional 50% for pension and health |
When a client says ALL MEDIA— this is the kind of magnitude you need to know about. And when you think about how much to charge, look to the union scale for payment, even if you're not in the union. The end client pays scale PLUS 50% to cover accounting fees, taxes & FICA, and contributions to your pension and health funds when it's a union job.
Scale by itself is a deal.
These new, grossly prevalent cheap-sauce offers are shameful. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

The reasons behind the rate difference.
Non-union actors do not have to audition
They work all the time.
They do not get sick, nor do their families.
They never retire.
No issues with conflicts.
They CAN do the maths and $2,100 is awesome for only 2 hours work. Doods that's nearly $600 per hour! |

POSTED ELSEWHERE - A call to action.
What everyone should do is find the name of the person handling this campaign and send him/her $5 in an envelope with a note. "I am a voice over person we understand that you are having problem raising the money to pay for the X advertising campaign. Me and my colleagues understand challenging market conditions so please accept this small donation in order properly fund the appropriate payment for the voice over element of the commercial. Best wishes ..." Also enclose a business card. If someone finds the details let me know, I will do it. Not joking. It'll cost you $5 to make a difference. DO IT! Someone from WoVo should call the agency and so should someone from SAG-AFTRA but they won't! Stand up and be counted. |
