I use Audition all the time. It's my go-to audio editor (I actually have the whole CC suite). However... it has one massive flaw which really screws-up my workflow. I've mentioned it to them before, and I mentioned it again now. It is (to me) one of the fundamental requirements of VO recording.
When recording a long piece (elearning, audiobook, whatever)... it's quite possible that you make an unnoticed error which becomes apparent on review (horror!)... or maybe there's a small correction or change from the client end. With audition you cannot drop into the wave edit screen, pick an insert point and record a couple of takes of the new line/correction... because it overwrites the existing timeline! With Twisted Wave, it neatly pushes the downstream audio to the side and inserts your corrections... a quick edit and that troublesome sentence/word/syllable is a thing of the past. I cannot do this with Audition and it means I have to save, re-open in TW, record, save, and go back to Audition (probably with terminal damage to my range markers). The only alternative in Audition is to past in a whole bunch of room tone to give some workspace. Not intuitive... and yes, I know I can work in multi-track mode and do all sorts of fancy stuff... but a simple drop-in in wave edit view is a pain.
Unless I've missed an inset/overwrite toggle setting somewhere that is _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

If I need to do what Bish described, I just leave the file open and create a new file, record the correction, select and copy it, switch to the original file, select the area I want to replace, and paste the new one in. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Which is exactly my point! It should be a "hit the button" solution (as it is with Twisted Wave)... not a "swing the rubber chicken around your head three times" solution! Any process that involves cutting and pasting (or any other workarounds) is far too many steps. It is far easier for me (for long form work) to actually use Twisted Wave for the initial record, proof, & edit process... then moving it into Audition for final edit, massage, de-whatevering and final prep.
If Adobe is now acknowledging the existence of VOs, then they need to stop me using another program to fulfill such a minor (but fundamental) editing task. They should aim to keep me in CC for everything.
... or maybe I should just make fewer mistakes with long-form _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

I hate the cloud and want one price, no monthly subscriptions. The lie of Buy Now should read Lease Now. |

When I need to make that kind of edit in waveform I just record wherever the playhead is, copy the take I like and then paste it over the existing. It would be cool to be able to highlight a section, record new and if it was longer it just replaced. You'd have to have your timing and read perfect though...no multiple takes or you'd be editing just as much as if you just copied and pasted. |

If I still didn't also have the frequent need to use Photoshop, I'd try like hell to revert to Audition version 5, which is what I started with a few years ago. The more people who find the subscription model acceptable, it will continue, and I fear other companies will follow suit. _________________ Mike

A few years ago I went through a massive purge of, er... "extended trial software". Audition is my production weapon of choice, but I found I was using:
Audition
Premier
Lightroom
Photoshop
Bridge
... so the subscription model was the only practical way to go. The good thing is that you have access to a lot of other crap as well, and I've also found myself playing with a few of the other modules (After Effects, Illustrator, Character Animator, etc.) I hate the model as well... but it seemed like the right thing to do. _________________ Bish a.k.a.
