My PC is on it's last legs and I'm interested in switching to a Mac and Twisted Wave. I'm looking for a laptop that I can use with my existing monitor in my home setup and have it double as a travel rig.

How CPU intensive is the full version of Twisted Wave? Trying to determine if fan noise will be an issue or if I should be able to record and process about 15 cuts per day (most 60 or 30 seconds in length).

I'm looking at the mid 2015 Macbook Pro (15 inch) but open to suggestions.

Thanks,
Tom

That should be just fine as far as power goes. The more RAM the better, and an SSD will be much snappier. Fan noise will definitely be an issue if it is in the booth with you AND the fan is on. If, however, you were to place the laptop outside of your space, run a second monitor and use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse it would work fine. If the fan is not running, the laptop will be near silent. Twisted wave is not very resource intensive. I haven't personally recorded with twisted wave on my Macbook to see if it would cause the fan to kick on, but my Macbook Air does not kick the fan on (or it is really quiet) when I record/edit in Adobe Audition.

more RAM comes in handy if you plan to have several software apps open and running simultaneously. But a standard set up MB PRO should work fine for you. I'm running a full Pro Tools studio with dual Thunderbolt monitors on a MB Pro and have never had a hiccup. It's quiet but it will kick into cooling mode if you tax it extensively. Make sure you have it located in a cool spot in the room. I keep mine in an ISO BOX with an internal cooling fan in the box
and never hear it, even if I'm running a big music session with 30-40 tracks and lots of plug ins.

There are loads of training videos on YouTube, for TW and a whole lot of other things for that matter.

Here's a three-part series to help you get started with Twisted Wave, and then some!
