VO-BB - 19 YEARS OLD!

I'm thinking of getting a pair of tiny monitor speakers for my tiny booth. Because I'm space-challenged, and because I have deemed them not a priority worth spending a ton of money on, I am considering one of the following choices:
M-Audio AV-32
Mackie CR3
Alesis Elevate 3

Is any one of these significantly better than the others? Are one or more such pieces of total crap that I should immediately eliminate them from consideration? Can you suggest a better choice in the same general size and price range (3" and around $100 or less)? Thanks.

no clue on the other two - but i really like the mackie -- i have the event tr5 monitors - and i really like them as well.

Can't speak about the sound but...

If it makes any difference to you, the Mackie CR3 is the only one that you mentioned which has 1/4" TRS, as well as RCA inputs. The other two brands have only RCA inputs.

Another advantage of the Mackie is that it has a switch which allows you to place the powered speaker on either side, left or right. So if one side is more convenient for your volume knob, you can choose. This is not the case with most of these master/slave type setups, where the powered speaker (and hence volume knob) must be on the Left.

I have to add one more thing to think about. All of these speakers that you mentioned are rear-ported designs. Rear ports do not work well when backed up against a wall... they need space, probably at least a foot from the rear wall and space around them as well.

Personally, for your situation, I would consider something like the JBL Control 2P at $210 a pair. Yes, I know that is twice what you were considering but the JBL is front-ported, it has a 5" woofer, it can use 1/4" TRS, XLR and RCA. It has a +2dB/-2dB High Frequency switch and a balanced connection to the slave speaker. This is professional equipment. I don't know the sizes of the other speakers but the JBLs are pretty small and I think would work much better in a small enclosed space. I could be wrong.
