Has anyone heard of it?

www.internetjock.com

They don't charge an annual fee but they take a %35 commission. Is anyone a member? Any opinions?

How about Marketing Mania?

I'd agree. 35% seems like a bit much. I pains me when PayPal takes 1.9% of a web payment. (Yet I still prefer PayPal to checks)

35% and looking at the pricing, it's all a bit bargain basement.

Well, art galleries routinely take 40-50 % and more.
35% beats pay-in-advance in my book. You get work, they get money.

I went directly to character voices, of course-- and saw that someone had listed "Southern Bell" as an attribute.

wow. They sound like a whole telcom network?
Impressive.

I love it. The best comedy writes itself.

(Or, to use the vernacular, "you just can't make this sh*t up.")

I'm sorry but $26 net for a 30 second spot in just about any market? That's crazy IMHO.

What Bruce said. Not to say I haven't worked cheap (or that I never will again) ...but as a rule, that's too much bullet to bite.

Hey, I gotta put my two cents worth in here... although I do feel it is ridiculously low pay and absolute usary on the part of "InternetJock"; I survived the first two years after a situation with my ex-spouse on making $35.00/spot and sometimes less. (She got the lions share of the money by court order).

Many Non-Union agents get 15% to 20% from both the talent and the client (Union rules specify 10% maximum). So that is either 30 or 40%, but in this case from the talent only. Is it ethical and equitiable? Of course not.

I do NOT agree with this tactic, but IF it gets you work and gives you the training you need (by doing lots of VO), then so be it...

No, I would never again condone this kind of activity - even for me, but you can survive... the trick is in the numbers.

Okay, I'd figure I'd chime in here since I've been doing work for Internetjock for almost 4 years. He does ALOT of spots mainly for cable companies that aren't going to pay what we want per spot. He's supplied a market to those guys and has alot of business. I wish half the people I did work for was half as professional. Never had a check late in almost 4 years. Is it alot per spot, no, but when you've got a family to feed you really can't be that picky. He has alot of spots go through the door daily, hell what I make a month with InternetJock alone pays my freakin bill's every month. Personally, I'd rather be cutting alot of spots instead of waiting around doing nothing while waiting on one big job to come in but that's just the way I work. Just wanted to drop my .02 cents in.

Hey no problem, I just didn't want to see the guy starting to get lumped in with a V123 because his setup is nothing like them at all. While his rates may be low, he treats his talent top notch.

I LOVED doing cable ads when I was first getting going, because there were always plenty of them.

I'm glad to hear a positive testmonial about Internet Jock.
He's got the right idea with taking a percentage.

As an IJ roster member, myself, I couldn't have said it better. Well, maybe more from the hip, but not necessarily better. I also appreciate when a client gets snarky, Bob will play your back.
