Been there... done that... but in my case I had one engineer and four reps from the agency. Imagine those three, plus another one who said nothing... until near the end of the session (when the other three were happy)... "Don't you think it could be a little more..."
Unfortunately, a u87 embedded in a client's orifice is not considered a professional response to direction. They don't teach self-restraint at voiceoverist school... but it has to be something you carry with you at all times. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

I am Vince.
And my self-restraint is Xanax... or none at all.
Interestingly, a client gave me a heads-up the other day over the possibility of "challenging" behavior by their client during a session this afternoon. The script is a very brief opening and closing (just a few sentences), containing no technical, medical, anatomical or pharmaceutical terms or jargon. Just regular, plain old, everyday words.
I cannot wait to see what "challenging" means in this context.
Secretly, I yearn to one day channel some Orson Welles during a session. _________________ Mike

Loved the bit.
In the real world, the fault of situations like this lies entirely with the engineer. A good engineer gives one person control over the almighty talkback button.
Personally, as I look through the glass and see them talking, I hear Philip's immortal words of wisdom "It's not about me" and imagine they're discussing lunch. Then suddenly someone remembers they're paying for studio time and gives me a bit more direction. Sometimes being delusional keeps your sanity.

The guys at Dog & Pony Show in Las Vegas (with the permission of the client and the talent) put a camera in the control room and recorded a session from that perspective. It's a really fascinating look at what goes on on the other side of the glass. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Todd. Are there any special tax deductions for the PITA multiplier? _________________ Reading, talking and listening.
