If you want to go far in this business young women, never ever ever ever sound like this unless you're being paid to mimic this woman and her sisters. Everyone else, I suggest not listening to this brief video or burnt eardrums or spasmodic vomiting may ensue.

The more I turned down the volume, the better she sounded... and when I remove my hearing aids, she sounded great. _________________ "Bailey"

My 26 year old daughter is starting to talk with an affected-fry voice. Being the good mother I am, I don't say anything, but respond to her in a worser-fry delivery. So far she hasn't picked up what I'm puttin down. _________________ Moe Egan

Had a client a while back who insisted I put in as much fry as possible. Said he read it makes women sound more intelligent.

I am not even going to listen.

I listen to NPR and shout at the radio about 25% of the time. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Am i the only person who thinks NPR's Shay Stevens is just THE bestest (and underused) voice on radio... or anywhere...? _________________ SoundscenesDC, main talent and production offices just 385k km up the gravity well in LuNoHoCo Center, old satellite studios still bookable at the future site of Johnson City! |

I don't know Shay Stevens. I just know Guy Raz always sounds like he needs water, and I told him so. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Just listened. Best descriptor from me? Wooden. By that I mean, affected deliberate. Gawd 'elp us if we all liked the same things!

It's almost as if nearly everyone jumping on the Valley Speak bandwagon weren't enough. I just never understood the desire to purposely affect the voice for something other than to play a character... or give some other illusion. And then, for many others to hear it and do the same thing (?)

Why advertising works: give something some sort of appeal and - especially if a celebrity does it - others will quickly follow, most without question. _________________ Mike
