Just saw the story on the Chem explosion down there. I thought Apex sounded familiar. Are you anywhere near that? |

Tom,
I heard about the explosion and fire in Apex on the radio on my way in to work this morning here in Charlotte. I hope Brian is OK.
As for Brian's location, this is from his profile:
Quote: | Location: Apex, NC |
Addendum: The radio report said a few thousand had been evacuated from their homes in Apex, so it may be a while before hear from Brian. _________________ Be well,

From the front - I live a few miles up the road from Apex. the only people injured so far have been some 1st responders. They did not have the proper respritory equipment. The hospitals have not been overrun - 18 treated so far.
Half of the town has been evacuated because of the chemical plume.
The good news (for some) is that the winds have shifted and are moving the plume away from highly populated areas.
I hope we hear from Hart soon. |

Doug,
Thanks for the report from just up the road. For anyone who's interested, here's a link to the article in the Raleigh Observer's web site on the story:

Hey all,
I emailed Brian to let him know that I was praying for him and his family this morning and just receive a reply a moment ago. I let him know about this thread and asked him to reply. Hopefully he will shortly. _________________ Be well,

Hi guys,
We're fine. About half the city has been evacuated and they are asking the rest of us to turn off the A/C and stay indoors. So I'm doing that, channel surfing the TV news, and keeping up with the neighbors.
We live a little bit west of the evacuation zone. As long as they don't expand it this way we should be fine. A school about 2 blocks away was turned into a shelter. I went down there to see if I could help out, but they're good. Actually, they're closing it and moving people to Cary.
Thanks to Bob and Doug for the emails.
DB - sent you an email. I haven't thrown myself down the stairs... yet.

CBS sent my buddy, Jim Krusula from Greensboro to Apex early in the AM.
He reports "...a sweet petroleum smell."
I would tell him that if he is close enough to describe the smell....He's too dang close!!
You News people--just how much would you endanger yourselves for the story??????

I heard Jim on the air with WBT in Charlotte this morning. Good work. And I agree, if you're close enough to a chemical plant fire to describe the smell, you're too close. _________________ Be well,
