Change your perspective and change your life. This is probably the best advice I've ever heard.

The best advice is simple and subtle. Thanks for posting Dan-O.

Sometimes we just need to hear the truth. From a higher authority. Smile

What was grand for me was watching a complete stranger both personally and professionally explain something. I couldn't be a supportive friend or a fan of a great actor/voice/director.

Here was a guy, just a guy, with experience explaining very clearly not what you should do but how you should be.

"Do YOU have a job for ME?"

No

"How do think I can help?"

Fabluss!

That's fantastic! I never could click with Breaking Bad but I picked up his book anyway... a great read with a ton of useful nuggets like those in the video. Jenna Fischer's book is another one in that vein.

Wow.

"I'm doing all my work without attachment to an outcome." Love it.

Also, the line "The civilian population doesn't really understand us at all..." describes perfectly the gulf between those who do voiceover, and those who get into voiceover thinking that "it's just talking, right?"

"Have you ever said to yourself, 'I would like a career in radio announcing?' If the answer to that is 'Yes,' then you're going about it in the wrong way. You should be saying it to someone else." --Gary Owens

Speaking (ahem) of "it's just talking," I couldn't resist mentioning - for the benefit of any newbies - some other ludicrous notions on voice-over:

It had been at one time falsely suggested that women were not used in voice-over's early days, first, because microphones of the era were not able to pick up high frequencies, including female voices and, second, because the feminist movement had not yet taken place.

Indeed.

Nobody's ever accused me of high frequencies
