|
|
I've had someone inquire about spending several thousand dollars to go through the Such-A-Voice program. Most of our discussion here are ten years old or so, so I'm wondering if there are any newer impressions of their service. I've found a couple of sites with scads of positive reviews but they look like manufactured mega hype to me.
Anyone used them, can recommend them, or are a fully employed voice actor because of their training?
Thanks!

Three simple answers for me: no, no, no.
- I haven't used them
- I can't recommend them
- I'm not employed thanks to their training
And as long as they continue to make hyperbolic claims in the advertising they do across the country, (seriously, click and take a look at the massive number of "NOW is YOUR TIME" classes they do to fill their sales funnel with eager wannabes) I'll continue to see them as opportunistic and parasitic.
This is a quote from the advertising linked to above:
We will show you "a unique, outside of the box way to cash in on one of the most lucrative full or part-time careers out there! This is a business that you can handle on your own terms, on your own turf, in your own time, and with practically no overhead!"
They make it sound so simple. Then you show up at one of their introductory "classes" (really, it's a sales pitch) at schools and community centers around the country where they try to get you to sign up for their multi-thousand dollar training/demo programs.
No thanks. _________________ Doug Turkel (tur-KELL)

a company like this (it MIGHT have been them - but the pitch is the same) tried to hire me as an "instructor" years ago. ultimately, they are a demo production company. the real "instructor" money comes from selling demos & head shots. i told them to take a leap & called the bbb & my local chambers of commerce.
here's the breakdown -
1. go to their "class"
2. find out you have VAST talent
3. purchase demo & head shots (from them)
4. purchase a neumann u87, pro-tools, whisper room & comfy chair
5. wait 11 months
6. sell neumann u87, pro-tools, whisper room & comfy chair on ebay
7. stare a hole in your bank account _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis
