|
|
Is there a consensus on whether website visitors (aka potential clients) prefer auditioning audio demos (compilations), or watching the videos from which some of the audio samples have been taken?
If I were to post videos, would there be a need to edit them all down to: 30 or 60 seconds, no longer than xx seconds, or leave them as they are?
Any other considerations for posting videos?
Thanks. _________________ Mike

Why not both?
If you have the material to create a highlight reel, go for it and put it front and center. Make sure it's slick and quick. Big names make a big impact on producers looking for a pro.
That said, if you don't have the material or the work you have isn't demo quality I wouldn't recommend a video.
I've seen a couple promo demo videos where an editor takes an audio demo and created a video cut for it. I'm torn on these. One side of me thinks it's deceitful, the other says it's ingenious. |

Videos of actual work are great if they are reasonably high-profile and, as Dan says, brief. This would be in addition to audio-only purpose-made demos. I try to post a small collection of current work from so (1) people can see I work with big clients and (2) I can impress my parents. That said, I doubt many buyers actually look at this, since the vast majority of my jobs come from my reps. Still, I do get the occasional offer from someone perusing my website.
I'm sure you know to clear the posting of vids with producers, or to use a link to a publicly available site like YouTube. Videos on Facebook and other sites can be subject to strict licensing agreements, however, so it's best to make sure you're in the clear. _________________ Jack Daniel

I create a 3:00 video demo every year of new stuff for a showcase for a local video association. If the audio is only audio, I will find a still frame and use it as the background. (Radio spot for example). Anything I use has been blessed for public showing. _________________ Playing for a living...

Embedding YouTube videos are great, IF you understand that you need to have a great title, tags, and a description that starts with http://yourwebsite (That ensures a clickable link). Google loves videos. Also check your Google My Business page. You can upload videos there as well. You need 10 reviews and 10 pictures to get some extra "Google juice" for your SEO efforts. Also, be sure you post to GMB as much as possible. Even if you work with out-of-town folks, it gives you a little extra boost in the rankings.
And if you can also upload videos directly to your page (using HTML5) so that the video file lives in a folder on your site, that's a helpful technique too. _________________ "When I was your age, we had to dial to get online"

All my demos on my website are simple video demos. They only have my logo and audio. |
