Just saw this over at the infamous open-source web encyclopedia, under the entry for ADR:
Dubbing has been criticised in several ways, patricularly in countries where it is not common practice.
Quote: | Those who dislike dubbing sometimes claim that it devalues films or TV programmes, as original soundtracks are closer to what the director intended. In some cases dubbing can make the film or programme less authentic. (For example, Nazi officers in WWII movies can be distracting to some if not speaking German. In addition, significant part of actor's performance consists of their vocal inflexions. Very often, memorable lines from popular films are frequently quoted, not for their substance, but for the way they were spoken; a good example is a famous sentence, uttered by Jack Nicholson in the film ''A Few Good Men'', "You can't handle the truth!". For these reasons, many feel denied half of film's artistic value when they watch an award-winning film dubbed by low-paid anonymous actors, or, even worse, voice-over artists. |
Emphasis mine.
Ludicrous and unnecessary. Just thought I'd share it before I edit this little bit of ignorance out of existence.
P.S. "Inflexions"??? That had to go, too. Yeesh. _________________ Great Voice. Great Choice. For Voice Talking and stuff.

Heh. Yes, he did, much the way guitarists derisively refer to some drummers as "musicians". _________________ Great Voice. Great Choice. For Voice Talking and stuff.
