|
|
Hi All,
I'm stumped and am asking for some good ole VO-BB help. I'm new to routing signals on the UAD Apollo Twin and can't figure out how to route my ISDN.
My two issue are:
* The caller is looping back, or getting slapback
* I would like to mute my own feed into my headphones. (I don't want to hear my voice just the caller's.)
I/O
Mic 1 -> Line 3 Out
ISDN Out -> Mic 2
And here's the current configuration on the UAD Console
Thanks!

Is there a monitor feed on your end you can mute? maybe have the studio on the other end turn your monitor off. |

I've sent you my setup (via email), but I don't think we are trying to do the exact same thing. _________________ Jack Daniel

Hey Jack,
Thank you for that. Strangely it didn't affect anything at all. |

Crud. Time to call George again? He did my routing and now I just don't think about it. _________________ Jack Daniel

maybe try having caller mute their mic if they haven't already done so when you are recording? |

I think his problem is the opposite--he wants HIMSELF muted while being able to hear the other side. Basically a mix-minus. _________________ Jack Daniel

hence my 1st thought: Is there a monitor feed on your end you can mute?
I don't use the UA but have addressed this problem with clients before. So depending on the setup we were able to eliminate the prob. Headphones on both sides will work too. Turning off any external monitor speakers on the other side and muting your own monitors works.
If I get this correctly Dan's audio is feeding back from a speaker somewhere into the mic either on the client side or his if not using headphones.
The client could turn off their mic while he reads so the signal doesn't feed and loop back.
Dan, if you know Russ Gorsline at Rex he'd probably have a good solution. |

I think his need is to not hear himself at all -- more of a performance thing rather than a feedback thing.
But Dan has missed his last two payments to me as his personal spokesman so I'll leave it to him :) _________________ Jack Daniel

The loopback is in the Apollo mixer. The signal is coming in from the ISDN caller to the Apollo and is being sent back to them from the Apollo. It sounds like a delay.
If I mute the monitor I hear nothing from either source. This, of course, is based on my limited knowledge of how this fancy machinery works.
I don't mind so much hearing myself. I can always slide the earpiece off while I read. The side effect is it creates an inconvenience to the client if they want to give quick direction. |

Dan-
I am not sure what you are trying to do is even possible without a mixer. One frustrating thing about the Apollo Twin is that I physically have to mute my speakers when recording in Adobe Audition. And on the rare occasion I use headphones while recording there is slight delay. To me this is probably the only major flaw with the Apollo as everything else with the plug-ins is pretty amazing. I never had to do this with my old Apogee Duet. UA told me, at the time I bought the Apollo, that Adobe Audition was not one of their supported software. Hopefully that will change in the future. I no longer have ISDN so this is something I have not encountered. You, of course, know George Whittam and his vast and amazing knowledge, but Tim Tippets knows the Apollo Twin very well too. He might be able to help you. His website is https://votechguru.com/
