Hi there --- just wondering if others include all types of training (acting, improv, etc.) on VO resumes. For example, I have well-known coaches I list who I've worked with for a while, but I also have 6 week workshops I've taken in different areas at community colleges, little theaters, etc. Is it standard to only list people you've worked with for a substantial amount of time or should I include every attempt I've made at improving my delivery over the years? Thanks in advance and happy holidays!

In writing about how he put his new web site together, Kevin Genus made one very valuable comment which applies to your question - "No one cares".
Investing time, energy and money to improve your skills is important to you the Voice Over and for the most part to no one else.
How do you sound? Who was the last person to hire you?
A great teacher does not guarantee and great graduate any more than a wonderful mic would guarantee a wonderful voice. Just out of interest I think you'd be surprised at how many people willing to hire you will be unaware of the existance of Voice Over coaches let alone the fact there are well known ones. |

I'm going to disagree with with my esteemed colleague this time and say it depends on the audience.
Potential clients don't care; they just want to make sure you don't have a conflict in their market.
Agencies, however, do care. So if this resume is about trying to get representation, they absolutely want to see what kind of training you have and also what kind of ongoing activity you've got going on to keep you sharp-- weekly workout, occasional workshop, or whatever.
Professional-level training from the 'right' instructors is a heckuva lot better than studying with well-known hacks. Community college classes... I'm not 100% positive I'd include those unless it's super relevant for some reason.

I agree with both of you. Almost no one cares in the VO world, but those in the acting world do. So if you're pursuing both careers with one site I'd make the resumé available for those who click a button or two to get there, but I would not make it a prominent feature. That way it's there for those who care, and not for those who don't.
Break a cyber leg,
