|

I did a spot through my agent in mid-October and have yet to be paid for it. She said the client hasn't paid her yet but she'll continue to remind them. It's a large sum of money. Does anyone have any suggestions how I might handle this with better results?
Thanks, as always, for sharing your wisdom! _________________ Joni Lambert

I don't believe YOU can do anything but wait for your agent to get the money for you.
I am facing a similar thing with an agent who arranged a great job in September, but tells me the client HAS paid albeit a couple of weeks ago, and the person handling the money for the agency has been out of town for those same couple of weeks.
Add to this the client's desire to do updates, so I did another session yesterday without having been paid for the first one yet.
Maybe I shouldn't have, but I can reasonably assume the client is good for it, being a Very Large Corporation.
The agent is
um
having some "issues". _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

I had a slow pay through my agent earlier this year (150 days old) and she finally encouraged me to call the guy and apply some pressure. Lo and behold my agent got the check within a week. I used a bit of logic, a dash of reason, and I only said the name "Guido" once in the whole conversation.

Maybe I should call my agent and just casually mention the name "Bruce Miles".
Sacks of money would arrive shortly, I'll wager. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

I withheld sending a holiday card to my scofflaw client, who hasn't been paid by his client, etc etc etc ad nauseum....
I send emails every week...
One late-paying client said invoice by PayPal encourages him to thrown down right away and not sit on an invoice sent by email. Golly, whatever would happen if the invoice was sent by USPS??! _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!

Here's a related question. Let's say you don't get paid by the end of the year but you get a W2 for the work anyway. Do you just have to suck it up and pay taxes on money you haven't even gotten yet? I've been lucky so far in this area but I think it's going to happen to me this year. A friend of mine got fined because she didn't declare money she wasn't paid. _________________ Tom Dheere - The "H" is Silent, but I'm Not!

There's fraud involved if a client/agent declares something paid but hasn't disbursed the funds.
On the other hand, if the payor sends a check December 31st, you have to claim it for that year, because HE will. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

The stuff that slops over either side of the December 31st is a little messy. My 1099's never come close to the amount I actually delcare (lots of folks don't bother filling them out I guess). However, if there's a huge discrepency, especially with W-2's, there are IRS forms you can fill out to explain. Ask your CPA.

Deirdre,
Yesterday I received a check from my agent for a job I did in July. That's the worst it's ever been. It's usually more like 30 to 60 days. And a whole lot better than having to write it off as noncollectable. _________________ Be well,

Oh for pity sake!
I just tell them about a possible visit from my friend Louis.
