Deirdre, I've heard both sides. Is this for your VO equipment or are you just wiring a stereo?

I've been very happy with mine. Nice and quiet.

This is for my VO stuff.

AND
Guitar Boy loves the ones he uses. They're the only ones that last.

Go for it! With those big VO bucks you're making you can afford it! And, write it off as a business expense. First expenditure for 2007! Smile

1. I hope Guitar Boy's watch isn't self-winding...

2. From empirical comparisons here at Casa Blanca, I can't make the speaker cabling make an aural difference. Everything including zip cord, cheap Radio Shack speaker wire, Monster cables, to Monster-like cables have been wired up here. I'm running an Alesis 300W power amp, through (apparently) anything stringy with copper in it to a pair of Tannoy Proto J's. The weak link is the power amp which was described by an engineer of my acquaintance as, "Crap." He's a terrific Classical recordist (a jillion album credits) and an actual Rocket Scientist. He doesn't like the Tannoy's either. I do like them but then again, I don't have any album credits. And besides, the previous system was a 50 watt JVC into a pair of--was I drunk when they were purchased?--Bose speakers.

I can't offer any monster cable advice, I'm afraid, but I'm just curious. Is that a Les Paul Junior that Guitar Boy is wielding or just a good copy?

Cheers

That, my friend is an Epiphone version of the GIBSON SG.

Les Paul:

Ephiphone SG:

I use Monster Cables on my mics now.
Speakers be damned--I'm just going for clear signal from the mic to the preamp and back out.

You're quite right - but that is definitely a copy of an SG Junior, I would say! These are the best pictures I can find right now.

Can you tell I don't have any bookings tomorrow Smile Yet!

I must assert that Guitar Boy's guitar is by no means a "Junior".

He's got the 2 Humbuckers!
It's a G-400 with a glued-on neck.

Um, does this qualify as a threadjack? Ninja

Technically, the SG was originally a Les Paul model. I had to look up the specifics, but I have heard of it referred to as the Les Paul / SG. I had a friend who was a BIG Angus Young fan and had a couple of these and a Flying V for his Michael Schenker side... Smile

My $0.02.

[soapbox]

Better cables are often "better" because of the superior connectors and the superior way those connectors are attached to the wiring. I believe that is one of the reasons why they tend to last longer and people have less problems. It's those mechanical attach points that are the weak link and the cause of noise entering your system once they start to fail. Monster tends to use good sturdy connectors and attach them properly.

I have a set of Monster cables to my Klipsch that I've used for almost 20 years without any major signs of fatigue at the connectors.

DB

I use Mogami, although its probably 6 of 1 half dozen of the other. On short runs that don't cross over power or other cables (which should be avoided no matter what cables you use) I'd be surprised if they made that dramatic a difference for you. Canare cable is what I own the most of. Call me (later in the week) if you want to talk about it.

It made a huge difference because I had no idea how c-c-c-crappy my other cables were until I got the Monsters.

And Limey, my love, I owe you an apology.
You are, of course, absolutely right that the body style of that SG is a copy of the Les Paul Junior.

The only times I've ever seen one, you see, is in its Gibson or Epiphone incarnation, hence my ignorance.

Guitar Boy earned the money for that guitar babysitting.
Talk about devoted! and it's a testement to how good that instrument is-- it's 9 or 10 years old.

I tried them... didn't hear anything that I didn't already hear with my Mogami cables, and therefore couldn't justify the price.
