I keep getting conflicting advice on whether to submit a resume when sending a CD to an agent. A resume highlights conflicts, only beginners send resumes vs. a top agent telling me she always goes right to the resume and looks for what kind of training the VO performer has.

So, tell me-- when you send your CD's out, do you include your resume?

If sending information to agents they need to see two things or at least one out of two.

1 - Who's buying?
2 - Who's likely to buy?

When looking at any feedback from agents which always comes with a "no thank you" be as hard on them and as critical as they have been on you. Look for genuine reasons not polite excuses. The only genuine reasons are found in the two above questions.

Over ten years ago I called a radio commercial producer called Tim Nice who worked for Red Dragon FM in Cardiff, Wales. I asked about booking me for the coming year. This was Tim's reply.

"I have No work for you sir" polite and crystal clear.

Perhaps we should approach agents and potential clients with the following request - All rejections must be gift wrapped

If you're interested, this is what goes out with my CDs.

People casting for games want to see your acting resume.

Commercial VO casters usually don't care.

When I send out a query e-mail, I offer a link to my resume online.

I never send my resume, but if I include a cover letter or send my demo via email, I usually mention my most recent work relevant to the submission. If I have it, I add a link so they can hear it.

Amy,

I can't be of much help. My agent called me after he heard an old demo given to him by a friend who was already signed to that agency.

I met him on a Friday in May 1996, signed with him the following Monday and within two weeks was cast to voice national radio and television commercials for 84 Lumber from an audition to which he'd sent me the week I signed.

Of course, it's all been down hill from there...OK, I'm kidding. Actually, because of the amount and quality of the work (directly) and auditions he gets me, I haven't even tried to find anyone else.

(edited to fix typo)

I only send one if they ask for it in their submission guidelines.
