My all-too-common complaint is that I'm so busy, I don't have time to advance my career.

That-- and I need a wife.

Who are Dave and Fletcher?

Fletcher?

The man is a legend. I would trust his opinion on pretty well any piece of gear. Mercenary really know the meaning of customer service and they are not mere sales weasles (as Fletcher calls them) but full blown recording professionals.

I just wouldn't want to meet Fletcher in a dark alley.

Yeah, he's a character all right, which is a double-edged sword at times.

That said, the man definitely knows his stuff around the gear. Relating to this mic, he was a bit hesitant at first, but he now uses the Horch in place of his U47s, which is an interesting move considering how he enjoyed the U47.

I have some minor issues with the layout of the mic, and that I have virtually no support in the US should something go wrong. That said, I have backup mics to take the place of whatever I end up getting, so a few weeks won't kill me.

Whatever happens, it'll be a fun experience Smile

Not to do a double post, but for those who are interested...

I just got a PM from Fletcher on another board...

ironically, they'd recently been using the aforementioned RMJ2 in the following chain:

RMJ2 > Sebatron > Atomic Squeezebox

and had been getting ridiculously deep and detailed VO out of it for movie trailers. With cleaner chains, it's been coming out light as a feather.

I've asked for some clips if possible and will post them if received (apparently it's a pretty amazing VO mic).

EDIT: Due to proprietary issues, no clips... sorry. But from the message, they're amazed by the sound it gives in spoken word on just about any chain.

I'm expecting better than that...

but all things considered, you can pay $6500 for a dog of a U47 and it's considered to be a great deal.

Having used this in a musical sesne, the mic definitely outshines the U47s I normally run across (I'd put it on par with Klaus's better work). Very C12ish in character, but the ability to swap so many patterns gives it more than an edge in usability.

However, not all "musical" mics make for good VO mics. The changes made to the U87 in the AI model that cause most musicians to grumble are the very things that make the mic outstanding for VO use IMO. That was my concern when I first thought about using this mic for spoken word... Thankfully my initial concerns are somewhat allayed.

And will be even more so when I demo the mic for myself Bitchin
