Hi it's me Bo Hudson, I just can't for some reason log in. (too many passwords to remember I'm afraid)

Anyway, question for you VO's that travel with equipment.

I am going out of the county with a lot of my gear, and am wondering about insurance of any kind for my equipmentf. I have called a couple of travel insurance places and they say the only kind is for baggage on the plane, not from getting stolen etc. while traveling around . Any ideas?

Bo - Just curious. Are you taking equipment for work? If so, be careful - there are several things which you might want to check into prior to going "out of the country".

You have import/export duty to pay, you will also have to register for a permit in the country you are heading into... and you may have to spend a few bucks to get your equipment back into the USA.

Then - there is Insurance... a fat lot of good it will do you if your equipment is stolen in a third world country. And, it's expensive. If you do not have a lot of equipment, think 'personal use' stuff...

Take a laptop - you can call it 'personal communication equipment' or just your "laptop". A hard drive (external), and a very small mixer, say - you like to record native sounds... and a microphone and headphones, you need something to recrod native sounds on and you have to have something to hear them on...

Say "work" at the border station and plan on at least four hours of wait, unless you have all your papers ready... then it's only two hours. Oh, and lest I forget - even more money.

I used to travel a lot with lots of video and audio gear, I would not do it today on a bet... I would find someone in the country you are traveling towards and make a deal to use their equipment - that is unless you travel light as described above.
