I recieved an email today from a guy who claimed: he "could out-voice any of the presenters at VOICE 2007 with one vocal chord tied behind his back",

Since then my attitude has been definately jaded.

This guy adds, "he wont pay to learn", and yet he says he can "out-teach" Pat Fraley, D.B. Cooper, Bettye Zoller, James Alburger, Penny Abshire, Bob Bergen (a.k.a. Porky Pig), Rodney Salusberry, Connie Terwilliger, MJ Lallo, Gregory Best, and yes, even me - O.K,, maybe me...

Here is a guy who has no website, other than a Voice123 link, and a link but no information on Voices.com, is a relative unknown (listen to who is talking), and has no clue about the business or the etiquitte involved in voiceover, yet he has the nerve... arrggh!

I think he believed someone who said he could make "sacks and sacks of money which would be delivered to his doorstep", and he did not have to posess any actual talent... he talked all day for free, didn't he?

Just had to vent a little... It just amazes me what one person's ego will do to others around him/her.

I guess I took it a bit personally. I know I should not.

O.K,, I am done... Just had to vent a little...

Think watercress!

Thank you for you patience with me.

Frank F

I'll be looking forward to seeing HIS program at the convention HE produces.
I'm sure it will be awesome! Someone who doesn't need to "pay to learn" should be God-like in his ability, since most education worth a rip costs something.

Invite him to speak or teach or somehow take a turn in front of the eager students just waiting to learn from him. It may be kinda fun, ya never know.

Don't let that nimrod upset you, my dear Frank. We're going to have a blast and it's going to be amazing! I am so excited-- I can hardly wait!

BTW, I'd be willing to tie one of his vocal chords behind his back, if DB will hold him down. You should be ready to hand him some copy and a mic.

It might as well have read: "I'm looking to sabotage my voiceover career before it even gets started, and remain arrogantly oblivious through the whole process. How'm I doing?"

I have been thinking how to answer this - er - person. My thoughts are offering to let him present his information (it should take about 10 seconds), but, before he accepts our generous offer, he would need send a synopsis of his presentation.

He feels that all of the folks presenting are making "big bucks" and those of us creating VOICE 2007 are really just raking in the dough on the backs of starving voiceover artists who do not know any better.

So, my other thought is to allow him (graciously) to accept James, Penny, and my debt regarding VOICE 2007.

(We are NOT in this for the money, believe me. I would be happy to break even. But, as Amy writes, so eloquently, "We're going to have a blast and it's going to be amazing! I am so excited-- I can hardly wait!" I am a firm believer in "giving back" for all of the things I have recieved, this is my way of doing some of the "giving back". )

What do you think?

Oh, a little inside secret for you - Michael Rhys IS coming from Tokyo, Japan. he will be on board Saturday as one of our panel members as we discuss our business, in the USA, Canada, and even in Japan. Have you ever wondered what it is like to create voiceovers in a foreign country? Ask a man who knows.

There is more, but, I cannot tell all of my little secrets, can I?

Toodles

F2

P.S.: Any I can not wait to see you and DB with this guy... it will be something we will have to get pictures of.

Frank. Why dignify this guy's message with a reply? Don't you think it would steam him more just to ignore him? Repeating as necessary?

That reminds me of the people who audition for American Idol who, when you see their audition you wonder, "is this person serious?"

There are many people out there who believe themselves to be enormously talented without a single shred of quantifiable evidence. These people are either a) headed for greatness or b) certifiably delusional. I suspect your correspondant falls into category B.

Just for the record, I believe myself to fall into both categories a and b but that is another issue entirely.

Kind VO-BB folk...

To take Joe's point further, Idol does premiere tonight. Maybe this guy is the William Hung of the VO world. God help us all.

This person is obviously having a bad time and sent an email to Frank in the hope it may make him/her feel better, my guess is that it didn't.

If I'm having a bad day I never send emails other than those on essential business matters and never post on here or anywhere else. That latter comment is no reflection on Frank deciding to make a fool look foolish.

VOICE is a professional event and should be viewed as such. Mutliply the total cost to you by 10 and you have the amount you need to see as a return on your investment. Do not apply the rule if your reasons are other than purely professional. By purely professional I mean to learn and enhance your career and as a result your income.

Having written that you shouldn't forget to have fun, make friends and that if you see a man selling Coke you're Bowling in the wrong direction.

Frank,

Don't let this guy get to ya. That seems to be the attitude of alot of people over on that sight as they sit around watching the computer screen waiting to do auditions. The way I see it, the day you stop trying to learn everything you can about our business whether it be marketing or growing your talent you become stagnant. I think what you guys are doing is great and that it'll be the Voiceover event of the year!
