this is a tragic story, but what gets me is that no one (contestants and the radio personnel) had ever heard of water intoxication?
Let alone not asking for the input of a medical professional prior to this?
Maybe it's just because of my background and education, but the rampant stupidity involved in a stunt like this just defies belief. _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

Read about this the other day.
My dad was a doctor and his response to all the medical 'scares' - too much of this, that or other other thing will kill you - was to say you can die from drinking too much water. Guess this just proves his point. _________________ Elaine

Yep, Hyponatremic shock. It's an awful way to go. Your blood gets "diluted" from all the water before your kidneys get a chance to filter it out and excrete it. Can cause some real damage, as the brain/heart, etc. are wallowing in hypotonic blood, and actually absorb H20 trying to equilibrate the sodium concentration, causing massive edema in all those organs. That's why she was complaining of a headache. A seemingly harmless stunt with tragic consequences.
That being said, have a great day, everyone.

I can't believe the station managers allowed this idea to fly. Simply amazing.. and sad. I'd like to hear what those DJs would have to say to her 3 kids. _________________ Donovan

I hope they never find a job in voice-talking (or in radio again). And they think it's all about ratings....
Holy -_____________ (you fill in the blank), they actually knew of the dangers, and still did the "stunt"????

Dingdingdingding!! We have a winnahhh!
Holy burnt furalex, they actually knew of the dangers, and still did the "stunt"????
I agree they should be prosecuted. Some of the comments they made that were quoted in the Fox article were just irresponsible. Signed release or not, the responsibility of her death rests squarely on the station. It's not really common knowledge that too much water is lethal.
Now, if they ran a stunt were people had to jump off a bridge and whomever survived got the tickets, that would be different... Jumping off a bridge is widely understood to be bad for you. _________________ Greg Littlefield
