Anyone using the mBox 1 and Audition? I just grabbed a copy of audition and when I set it up the use the ASIO digidesign drivers (Edit>Audio hardware setup) I get awful noise, even when the mic is not plugged in!
I do NOT have this problem with ProTools
Anyone else having this problem? _________________ Jeff

The problem is the drivers from DD, although they are ASIO, they were designed with a different protocol.
Try switching to 48 k, and using another brand of ASIO or WDM drivers. This will change how AA works with the mBox. Then switch back to 44.1.

Yes, either ASIO 2 compliant or DigiDesign mBox 2 ASIO drivers.
Without knowing the exact setup, my first suggestion is try WDM first. ASIO only works with 48k. The WDM will work with both 48 and 44.1k audio.
I have mentioned this before, but this is a problem which surfaces from time-to-time with DigiDesign prodcuts on PC's. If the noise persists, try adjusting the gain lower, or higer - then, as the next option - switch out the mic cable and/or any I/O cable.
Move the DD mBox to another location, as far from the computer as possible, and if the noise is still heard - un-install the mBox drivers, and re-install.

I don't think there is a WDM for the Mbox. There's nothing at Digidesign about it. And installing the Digidesign 7.0 drivers showed no improvement in Audition and ProTools 6.9 failed to even launch.
I think I'll just stick with proTools to record and Audition for some post work. _________________ Jeff

I didn't think you could even use the MBox with Audition. I thought it was proprietary to Pro Tools. |

Hence my aphrension to using "proprietary stuff" by that company. When the concept is "how to keep others from competeing with your product" and concentrates on the "bottom line" rather than quality and compatibility, the consumer loses.
Yes, you can use mBox with AA, but it is difficult.
The WDM driver selection is in AA, not an add-in.

So get this: after goofing around for hours trying to get the mBox to work with Audition, I loaded up the trial of Sound Forge 8 and set it for Digidesign ASIO.
Crystal Clear!
So the problem is not entirely with Digidesign, but possibly with Audition. Regardless, if anyone else has an Mbox and doesn't want to use proTools, Sound Forge 8 did the trick for me. _________________ Jeff
